Maritimes Butterfly Atlas S-rank for this species is "S2: Rare: May be vulnerable to extirpation due to rarity or other factors (6 to 20 occurrences or few remaining individuals)".
Flight PeriodLate June to late August. Two broods. Very few records.
HabitatWet meadows, marshes.
Larval FoodplantsCurled Dock (
Rumex crispus), Water Dock (
R. orbiculatus), Knotweed (
Polygonum spp.).
Similar Species in Nova ScotiaNone.
NotesWe found this species in a wet field at Oakfield, Halifax Co. in the 1980s. Since this sighting was very close to the main rail line into NS, they may have arrived via train. More recent records have been from locations near the border with New Brunswick.
