Hesperiidae - The Skippers
The Skippers are small, generally dull-coloured butterflies. There are two groups in Nova Scotia: the open-winged skippers, which are dark chocolate brown and fly mainly in the spring, and the grass skippers which are on the wing all summer. One of them, the European Skipper, is a recent arrival in North America and can sometimes be incredibly abundant.
